Start-up of the forklift business
A nationwide expansion of the industrial equipment business was encouraged by Korea during the late 1960s. During that time, the Korean forklift market was an open-import situation. Korea Machinery Co., Ltd. began to import assembled forklifts and sell them to large businesses, state-run corporations and the armed forces. During 1976, Daewoo Heavy Industries Ltd. merged with Korea Machinery Co., Ltd. The corporation established sales and service outlets all around the nation and, after a few years, opened its own forklift production plant. Product development and quality improvement through continuous technical training were the main focus of the plant.

Expansion of forklift exports
The market share of Daewoo Heavy Industries Ltd in the domestic forklift industry went as high as 90%. By the 1980s, the sales of the company increases and technological improvements had drawn the interest of the American company, Caterpillar Industrial Inc. The two firms entered a joint-venture project during the early part of the 1980s to deal with competition faced by Caterpillar in the US forklift market. Daewoo's forklift sales skyrocketed and another plant was constructed during 1984. Daewoo Heavy Industries Ltd. was then in a position to manufacture forklifts meant for export. In the early 90s, Daewoo went international with a worldwide sales network. New types of forklifts were developed as an independent brand using Korean technology.

Development of new models
Developed in the year 1998 was the G5 series, the very first series of proprietary models. These models were 1800 kg - 3000 kg internal combustion trucks. A research effort developed core technologies for transmissions, engines and hydraulic systems. Many performance and durability tests have validated the quality of this new family of trucks. The company established reliability evaluation centers to assure the reliability of main parts. These centers have obtained worldwide respect.

The G5 series is renowned for operator comfort and low environmental impact. The G5 is known all over the world for being reliable, operator friendly and durable.
